If the Chantry is to continue to fulfil its role as a Community Centre for
Thornbury then it is important that the site and its facilities are
regularly maintained and, wherever possible, improved. This will help
our current users to enjoy the Chantry more and will attract new users to
the centre.
The Challenge
The trustees of TDCA wish
to provide good quality facilities for local
community use at affordable rates, but also needs to run and maintain a Grade
II listed that is situated in Thornbury's conservation area. These are
not ideally suited objectives.
We aim to ensure that our rental income can run the operation
but capital grants are an essential part of the equation if the
Chantry is to benefit from ongoing improvement, restoration refurbishment
and development.
Current plans
It is important that a full range
of projects are considered at any one time. Some will be low cost and
easy to achieve whilst others will need substantial planning and funding
before they can come to fruition.
Some projects are optional whereas others really are an essential part of
keeping the Chantry in good condition. More and more we need to
consider change in the light of changing legal requirements.
The links on the left detail some
of our current project plans and the current status of each.

The paradox
to provide low cost facilities for community use whilst
improving and maintaining a listed building in a conservation area where
most repairs cost a significant amount of capital.
We are grateful to all who have
supported our aims to resolve this paradox by helping with grant funding. |
