MAY NEWS FROM THE CHANTRY

When the Chantry was being built the Duke of Buckingham owned the Manor House in Thornbury and started major building works there in 1507 and 1508. In 1510 he was granted a licence to create battlements and turn it into a castle. This was a relatively peaceful time in our history and historians have argued about the nature and purpose of Thornbury Castle. The Castle was never finished as the Duke was executed for treason in 1521!

NEWS

The Buckingham room was last painted in 2002 so take your sunglasses with you when you go as it now has a new coat of white paint. There is now new LED lighting paid for by the Co-op, and new blackout curtains donated by the Wellbeing Group. If you or your group would like to donate to a particular project we would be very grateful.
